The Last Post/ Where are the jobs?

Today is the last day I will be posting! I am sorry if someone was really into my blog. I just don't think blogging is for me. I am a procrastination person, so to have an assignment that I need to do all year long is tough for me. I didn't know how to handle it, so I didn't. This assignment has helped me realize how bad of a procrastinator I am. I wish I could go back and start over, not only to do a better job but to show myself that I can do this. This assignment to me was a basic research project and usually I would slowly gather information and by the last week I would try and get it together. Doing this project I realized that I didn't even gather good information slowly. I do feel that what I posted was of business quality, since that is what we are taught, to be concise and clear and correct when writing in the business genre. I didn't fill my posts with any filler, I just said what I was planning on talking about. All I planned on doing today was going to Careerbank.com and typing in these jobs I have blogged about in the past and then reporting on where the majority of them are. Instead I felt like I should explain my actions and take responsibility for a poor blog.

Most of the jobs I listed in a previous posts either have the same function as a job I described already or have a similar function or just overall is the same idea as general finance, as in financial planner or analyst. Financial Reporting, Financial Manager, and Financial Reporting Manager are basically all the same as compared to a Manager of Financial Reporting. Also the Finance Controls Manager is the same as the controller. A financial specialist would be equal to a finance advisor. Finance and the VP of finance are also generally the same as something listed above or in a previous post. This is just a catch-up post to let everyone know that I won't be focusing on any of those jobs listed in this post. I will try to find out where in Indiana especially these jobs are located along with the surrounding area.

Controller

I was searching for a controller in wikipedia and it came up under comptroller in an accounting area. But as stated below it says they are also controllers so I thought this would suite my needs just fine. I am trying to complete what I said I would do and research all the different job titles I posted last month sometime. So I am trying. Plus it is getting closer to the end of the semester so there will be more posts more often now. I am just not good at maintaining a project all year long. I am a procrastinator to the fullest effect. So this project is tough for me. But I figure enough is enough and I'll just do this.
A comptroller is an official who supervises expenditures. Comptrollers include both royal-household officials and public comptrollers who audit government accounts and sometimes certify expenditures. A well-known comptroller in the United States is that of the government office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
A comptroller is also a controller, one of the chief financial officers in a corporation charged with managing the cash flows of the organization. As a general rule, a comptroller is a public/government official, while a controller is an accounting professional in a company in the private sector.

Manager of Financial Reporting

A manager of financial reporting sounds like an important job. Let's break it down. First off Financial statements (or financial reports) are a record of a business' financial flows and levels.
The big four statements are :
1 Balance sheet which describes a company's assets and liabilities.
2 Income statement which describes a company's income and expenses.
3 Cash flow statement which describes how corporate operating, investment, and financing activities have affected the company's cash position.
4 Statement of retained earnings which describes changes to shareholders equity (for example a payment of dividend).
These things are what a manager would be accountable for and for figuring out. There are usually notes along with each statement because they are so complex. Most times the notes are longer than what they are explaining. Maybe this would be a good job.

In my quest to write this blog, which hasn't been going well, I am trying to find what different types of jobs there are for someone with a financial degree. The most popular are the financial planner and financial analyst. Following is a list from CareerBank.com of the current job openings under general finance posted at this website.

Hopefully in the coming posts I will try and describe each of these jobs and try to see where the jobs are.

Planner vs. Analyst

A financial planner is a professional who helps people with various financial needs including: college planning, retirement planning, investments, life insurance, estate planning and more. Specifically, a financial planner creates a detailed strategy for meeting a client's specific goals based on the client's specific situation. A financial planner is someone who specializes in the planning aspects of finance, as contrasted by a stock broker who is only concerned with the actual investments. Financial planners are also known by the title financial advisor. A comprehensive financial planner is one who handles the whole financial picture. Other financial planners may specialize in one or more areas, retirement planning for example.
A financial analyst (or securities analyst, research analyst, equity analyst, investment analyst) works with financial analysis. Equity is a financial security used for financing business. It differs from debt in that it pays no set interest. It is a claim on future earnings.

While searching for a definition of finance I decided to go to the easiest definition/ information page I know, Wikipedia.org. I have obtained the following information.
-Finance studies and addresses the ways in which individuals, businesses and organizations raise, allocate and use monetary resources over time, taking into account the risks entailed in their projects.
The term finance may thus incorporate any of the following:
-The study of money and other assets
-The management and control of those assets
-Profiling and managing project risks
-As a verb, "to finance" is to provide funds for business.

So i haven't done anything yet still. The main thing i am going for though is to define what exactly finance is- what jobs there are for finance and where the jobs are in the country but mostly if any are in fort wayne that are worth going for. Learning the resume and cover letter aspects makes looking for a job more direct as you can search for jobs that pertain to your skills and then know how to apply for them.
